Obtaining car loans for used cars will have a fast acceptance time period. Getting capital prior to walking onto a car dealership is definitely important while going unprepared has economic drawbacks.

Joshua Keating: Many Swedish politicians skeptical of global warming

Posted by admin | Global Warming | Sunday 20 May 2012 11:31 pm

The United States often can seem like something of an outlier when it comes to politicians and climate change. After all, it was major news in the campaign when former GOP candidate Jon Huntsman tweeted that he trusts scientists on global warming. It was such a controversial assertion that he later walked it back.

But US political culture on this issue may not actually be all that unique:

Six of 10 local politicians in Sweden doubt whether human activity is to blame for global warming, a new study has found.

In addition, one out of 10 municipal politicians and local government managers totally deny that the phenomenon of global warming even exists, according to a survey...

Peter Hobbs, adjunct professor of crop and soil sciences, is coordinating a Sustainable Land Management group on campus to help foster a Brown Revolution to improve soil health worldwide.

(Phys.org) — The solution to climate change mitigation and global food security could lie in the soil beneath our feet, said Peter Hobbs, Ph.D 72, adjunct professor of crop and soil sciences.

He invites fellow Cornell researchers to join him in fostering a brown revolution that promotes conservation agriculture, which involves minimal soil disturbance and the use of cover crops and crop rotations to naturally control weeds, pests and diseases. And he hopes...

Alabama, Maxwell and energy: What powers the grid?

Posted by admin | Conserving Natural Resources | Sunday 20 May 2012 2:47 am

Electricity use is increasing throughout Alabama. Maxwell AFB is committed to doing its part to reduce this trend with the four-fold goal of decreasing Maxwell’s utility costs, decreasing the Air Force’s dependence on “the grid,” decreasing pollutants, and conserving natural resources.

According to the US Energy Information Administration, Alabama hosts two world-class energy facilities. Deep in an Alabama underground salt cavern lies one of the world’s two compressed air energy storage systems. This stored energy turns a large electricity-producing turbine to help power the state.

Power plants depend on Alabama’s seed plants to produce biomass, a fuel used to generate...

Pat Durkin column: Satisfied hunters talk turkey

Posted by admin | Natural Resources | Friday 18 May 2012 10:37 pm

Scott Walter sometimes felt as forgotten as a jilted prom date in recent weeks while visiting nine Wisconsin towns to discuss the states turkey management program.

But Walter was neither bored nor complaining as he prepared for the final two meetings Monday and Tuesday night in Minocqua and Stevens Point. As the Department of Natural Resources chief wild turkey biologist, Walter feels relief and satisfaction. Hunters at the first nine meetings had only one basic question: Was the DNR modifying its six weeklong spring seasons?

Once assured the DNR foresees few, if any changes, attendees relaxed, grabbed chairs and talked turkey. In some cases, Walter just sat and joined them....

Global warming affects cultivated cereal crops

Posted by admin | Global Warming | Friday 18 May 2012 4:59 am

Although farmers know better than ever how to grow food, global warming may
indirectly affect our diet by diminishing the amount of available nutritients. A
28-year comparative study of wild emmer wheat and wild barley populations has
revealed that these progenitors of cultivated wheat and barley, which are the
best hope for crop improvement, have been affected by climate changes, which
presents a real concern for their being a continued source of crop
improvement.

Prof. Eviatar Nevo of the University’s evolution institute,
who has studied the phenomenon, notes that wheats and barleys are the staple
food for humans and animals around the world....
